A sustainable future for NSW means a home and a future for threatened native species. This year, many Green Globe Award finalists are fighting for endangered flora and fauna with innovation, ingenuity and passion.
Awards are made for 14 categories and Hovells creek Landcare Group is a finalist in two categories, Community Leadership and Natural Environment.
As part of the Great Eastern Ranges initiative, Hovells Creek Landcare Group has undertaken extensive paddock revegetation to extend the woodlands that provide a habitat for the once common Superb Parrot and other threatened species in NSW’s Central West region.
The Kanangra-Boyd to Wyangala landscape corridor connects and protects 2400 native plant and animal species over a 320,000 hectare wildlife corridor, from the Blue Mountains to Wyangala in the Central Tablelands. Nest box monitoring, barbed wire removal, tree planting, weed whacking and fire management plans have seen the return of 270 species to the area, including five previously unrecorded threatened species.
The awards will be announced at a gala event in Sydney at the end of November, which will be attended by HCLG’s Chair, Gordon Refshauge.
